Abstract Elaboration of the inventory of the pollutants emissions in atmosphere constitutes the basis for elaboration of the strategies and reglementations, assessment of the trends in evolutions of emissions, modeling of the pollutants dispersions, analysis of new sources, establishment of emission taxes, compliance with legislation, as well as review of existing reglementation and standards regarding the air quality. The current paper describes both the evolution of the emissions of the heavy metals in atmosphere in Vaslui County, Romania, in the time interval 1996 - 2006 and the risk of contamination of the soil with heavy metal in the studied area.
